Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023 finished. The list of participants of "MCR Marathon 2022-2023 Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament", which will be held on March 25, 2023 (Saturday) at 15:00 (UTC+3), can be viewed by link.
Participants consist of 4 groups, 3 groups of which are in the main section of the tournament, and the 4th group is a substitute players list (with conditional participation):

  • group marked as "Ann" are players ranked 1-32 of Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023 overall — 32 players
  • group marked as "Mon"are players ranked 1-3 in all 12 monthly results of MCR Marathon — 9 more players
  • group marked as "Org" are Duplicate tournament organizers — 4 players
  • group marked as "Sub" are players ranked 33-40 of Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023 overall — 7 players.

Consent in participation

All participants of "Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament" strictly till March 18, 2023 23:00 (UTC+3) have to send to Vitaly Novikov their "Consent in participation", the text like:
"I, [your name and lastname, MUST coincide with what is in your profile!], agree to participate in "MCR Marathon 2022-2023 Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament" to be held on March 25, 2023 from 15:00 till 20:00 (UTC+3).
I agree to follow all the tournament procedures (have time allocated for all the duration of the tournament, enter the system 30 minutes before the start, confirm my participation prior to 5 minutes before the start, etc.)
It is my responsibility to ensure stable internet connection, valid password, to understand how MCR Duplicate rules work."

At the day of the tournament

The ultimate goal is to hold top quality competitive mahjong event. There are obvious limitations like to have all the tables to be completed. Hence, the confirmation procedure is the most critical component!

The launching scheme will work as follows:

  • all 3 groups of players in the main section of participants will be placed into "main players" section as-a-whole, the starting seating for the session 1 will be determined randomly by the system
  • on the contrary, players in the "substitute players" section will have their order based on their ranking, whenever the opportunity comes, only the first in the list will be taken
  • all the players are strongly adviced to enter the system 30 minutes before the start of the tournament
  • 20 minutes before the start of the tournament the confirmation will start
  • IMPORTANT: confirmation will end 5 minutes before the start of the tournament, after that all unconfirmed players will be REMOVED from the system!
  • when only 5 minutes left before the start, the goal of tournament organizers is to complete tables, which will be done by "moving" the first available confirmed player in the substitute players section to the "main players" section; the process will be repeated untill the last incomplete table would be filled in
  • at the declared time the tournament starts

MCR Marathon 2022-2023 Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament

Mahjong International League (MIL) and MahjongSoft are pleased to announce a special tournament "MCR Marathon 2022-2023 Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament" for 40 best MCR Marathon players taken from winners of Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023.

Tournament

The tournament will be held on March 25, 2023 (Saturday) at 15:00 (UTC+3).
The tournament will be played in 3 sessions (90 minutes, 16 duplicate deals each). So, approximate ending time is 20:00 (UTC+3).

Participants

The main list of participants will be taken from players ranked 1-32 of Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023 overall and players ranked 1-3 in all 12 monthly results of MCR Marathon (provided they are not in the list of top 32). Players ranked 33-40 overall will be a source of substitute players list.
In addition to the winners, 4 wild-cards for Duplicate tournament organizers will be added to examine the work of the duplicate system.
Comment: all the names of tournament participants will be known on March 2, 2023 after finalizing the results of Annual MCR Marathon 2022-2023.

Prizes

The best 4 players of "Winners Duplicate MCR Tournament" will be pronounced as winners, every winner will receive cash prize and a medal:

  • rank 1 — 300 Euros
  • rank 2 — 200 Euros
  • ranks 3-4 — 100 Euros each

All the prizes will be provided by Mahjong International League (MIL).

All the potential participants will be contacted by tournament organizers starting from March 3, 2023 via email addresses, indicated in the players' profiles (please, make sure the information in profile is updated).

MCR Marathon Games Disqualification Criteria Modification

To enforce "healthy" competition and to address disconnected players issue the following criteria for MCR Marathon games disqualification will be applied (all the measurements are in "automoves", AM, that is the moves which are made by the system due to player's disconnection):

  • 50+ AM for one player in deals 1-4 of the game
  • after deal 8 if overall sum of AM in the game is 8 AM or less, then such a deal cannot be disqualified
  • 200+ AM for one player for the entire game
  • 300+ AM overall for the entire game
  • 11 deals or less in the game

When one or more players are obviously disconnected in early stage of the game, it is adviced to "abandon" such a game (it will be disqualified).

MCR Marathon Games Disqualification Criteria Modification

MCR Marathon games disqualification criteria has been modified (simplified) to avoid long play in case the game is abandoned or some players have lost connection:

  • 50+ AM ("automoves") for one player in deals 1-4 of the game
  • 100+ AM for one player for the entire game
  • 200+ AM overall for the entire game
  • 11 deals or less in the game

MCR Marathon Games Automatic Disqualification

The following changes have been introduced:
  • after finishing each deal of MCR Marathon game, the system will check applicability of any of MCR Marathon games disqualification criteria (see News dated 22.03.2022)
  • if any of the above-stated criterion is met, then the system stops the game and writes "The session has been disqualified."
  • the game itself will not be deleted, but instead it can be found in archive having "MCR" type of games

MCR Marathon Games Disqualification Criteria

To enforce "healthy" competition and to address disconnected players issue the following criteria for MCR Marathon games disqualification will be applied (all the measurements are in "automoves", AM, that is the moves which are made by the system due to player's disconnection):

  • 50+ AM for one player in deals 1-4 of the game
  • 200+ AM for one player for the entire game
  • 300+ AM "combined" for the entire game (to get AM "combined", add up the number of AM for all players and "incomplete game correction", which equals to 50 AM when only 14 deals in the game, or 100 AM when only 13 deals in the game, or 150 AM when only 12 deals in the game)
  • 11 deals or less in the game

When one or more players are obviously disconnected in early stage of the game, it is adviced to "abandon" such a game (it will be disqualified).

  • until MCR marathon table has not started yet, all players are "anonymized" by showing "#" instead of real "displayed names"

Annual MCR Marathon Launch

MahjongSoft is pleased to announce Annual MCR Marathon, a long-term open tournament, which starts on 01.03.2022 at 00:00 and ends on 28.02.2023 23:59 (by Moscow time).
Marathon is opened to all players, with no restrictions with respect to participation, or the number of accounted games.

Periods

Annual MCR Marathon is composed of four "seasons":

  • "Spring", 01.03-31.05.2022
  • "Summer", 01.06-31.08.2022
  • "Autumn", 01.09-30.11.2022
  • "Winter", 01.12.2022-28.02.2023

In turn, any "season" consists of three monthly periods, each starts on 1st day of the accounted month at 00:00 (by Moscow time) and end at 23:59 (by Moscow time) of the last day of the respective month.

Results and Ranking

All games played by a player within a monthly period are then consolidated using four-component formula to get player's score. All player's scores are then ranked accordingly to get rank (place) and basic rank for the considered period.
The player's seasonal result is a sum of TWO BEST basic rank values from the considered season.
The player's annual result is a sum of seasonal result values taken from each of four periods.

Prizes

Annual MCR Marathon:

  • the best player will receive a mahjong set
  • top 3 players will receive medals

Each month:

  • top 3 players will receive medals
  • top quarter of the "qualified players list" will receive Victory Points (VP)
Comment: organizer of Annual MCR Marathon may consider some other prizes in addition to the listed above.

Monthly MCR Marathon "February" Modification

In the Monthly MCR Marathon "February" the following changes (effective starting from 01.02.2022 at 00:00 by Moscow time) are introduced:

  • MCR Marathon game playing time is limited by 80 minutes provided any started deal should be finished
  • when player is disconnected then "non-HU" bot is activated
  • change in player's result formula — two more components are added (see below)
  • additional criterion for ties is introduced
  • MCR Marathon "Information" page has been introduced at menu "MCR Marathon/Information"
  • Monthly MCR Marathon "Results" page is moved to the new menu "MCR Marathon/Results"

The NEW player's result is a weighted sum of four components: 50%*average_TP (taken for all games) + 50%*average_TP (taken for best 10 by TP games) + 0.1%*number_of_games + 10%*average_TP_opponents (against whom player played).

For tied results number_of_games is used as an additional criterion — the lesser is that number, the higher player's result is.

MahjongSoft is pleased to announce Monthly MCR Marathon, a long-term open tournament, which starts on 01.01.2022 at 00:00 (by Moscow time). Marathon is opened to all players, with no restrictions with respect to participation, or the number of accounted games within a period (month).

To enter Monthly MCR Marathon, please, enter the table marked "MCR Marathon" on the starting page. The table of results is available at MCR Marathon page, to be found also in the site menu "Tournaments/MCR Marathon".

MCR Marathon table parameters: Deal per session: 16, Time for session: 2 h., Time for own action: 9 sec., Time for declaration: 8 sec., Additional time: 10 sec., Time for results: 10 sec.

The player's result is a weighted sum of two components: 50%*average_TP (taken for all games) + 50%*average_TP (taken for best 10 by TP games).
To be rated, 10 games have to be played by the player. While determining the player's result, all missing to the amount of 10 games will forceably be counted as having 0 TP and 0 GP.

Top players of each monthly period will be awarded. Prizes are to be announced later.

All the accounted periods start on 1st day of the accounted month at 00:00 (by Moscow time) and end at 23:59 (by Moscow time) of the last day of the respective month.

FAQ

What is Marathon?

Marathon is a long-term open tournament, usually played by periods. Marathon is opened to all players, with no restrictions with respect to participation, or the number of accounted games within a period.

Player's Score

The player's score within a monthly period is a weighted sum of four components: 50%*average_TP (taken for all games) + 50%*average_TP (taken for best 10 by TP games) + 0.1%*number_of_games + 10%*average_TP_opponents (against whom player played).

To be rated, 10 games have to be played by the player. While determining the player's result, all missing to the amount of 10 games will forceably be counted as having 0 TP and 0 GP.

For the sake of simplicity, all the components are rounded to the three digits after decimal point.

Ranking

All players' scores within the same period are then ranked (including breaking-ties algorithms). Each player, who played the established minimum number of games (10), is called as "qualified player". Each "qualified player" receives so-called "Basic Rank" (BR) according to the formula:
BR = 1000*(number_of_qualified_players-player's_place+1)/number_of_qualified_players, rounded to the closest integer number

All players who have not played the established minimum number of games within a considered period (10), receive BR=0.

Further Ranking

In the big-scope events like "Annual Marathon" all the "Basic Rank" (BR) values, received in individual periods, may be subject to further aggregating with or without discarding the worst player's results. The resulting number can represent "quarterly" or "annual" player's result.

Disqualification

To enforce "healthy" competition any game with seemingly unequal opportunities to compete should not be counted (disqualified). Thus, any games having "excessive" number of "automoves" (that is moves when system plays instead of disconnected player) should be disqualified. For exact criteria of such disqualification, please refer to MCR Marathon Games Disqualification Criteria.
